CHARITY – “Special Hockey of the Lehigh Valley”

The Lehigh Valley Whalers started in 2009 and play in a local men’s adult ice hockey league.  The 2011-2012 Rink at Lehigh Valley Adult Hockey League B Division champions have a great time on the ice and in the locker room but have also become inspired to give back to charitable causes through ice hockey.

Special Hockey is a program that gives individuals with special needs and developmental difficulties the chance to play an amazing sport in a way that’s suited to meet their individual abilities.  Founded in August 2014 by Joe and Nicole Guellnitz, Special Hockey of the Lehigh Valley is a local registrant with the American Special Hockey Association.  Participants learn a great sport and have fun doing it, and they also improve their motor skills, social skills, and build lasting friendships in a safe and supportive environment.  Any boy or girl over the age of 5 is welcome.  No prior hockey experience is needed.

CASK – TBD, we’ll keep ya posted!

Charity Cask Nights

Since June of 2006, the entire proceeds of the Bethlehem Brew Works first Thursday’s “First Firkin” has been donated to a local non-profit organization. Better still, the non-profit recipient has the opportunity to present literature and banners, and have representatives on hand for an informal Q&A and info-session about their community work.

A craft brewery draws its character and strength from its community, but it can also give back to the community and help create positive change. That’s the idea behind this series of benefit events that take place at the Bethlehem Brew Works every 1st Thursday of the month.

WHAT is a firkin ale?

A firkin is a small keg, holds about 9 gallons or so of cask-conditioned, 50°F beer. Our head brewer offers a hand pumped, cask-conditioned ale from a 10-gallon barrel called a firkin. The cask is always a special, one-of-a-kind beer connoisseur’s treat. It is available only until it runs dry, which could be just hours (or less) after it’s tapped.

WHY a firkin ale?

If you love beer then this is your chance to experience drinking a real ale!

Open up your senses to the hop and malt flavors released by drinking a beer from a hand-drawn firkin served at a respectable temperature.

Our brewers then work their magic to give each cask its own special character.
