It felt great to exercise my figure drawing muscles again, even better in a cool atmosphere with rockin’ tunes and good company.

In the second decade of the 20th century, in the years before World War I, the first truly international group of artists in France, known as the Ecole de Paris, lived and worked in Montparnasse. Among them were artists from Spain, Italy, Germany, Romania, Mexico, Japan and eastern Europe. Ossip Zadkine, Jacques Lipchitz, Jules Pascin, Moïse Kisling and Chaim Soutine became some of Modigliani’s closest friends after he moved to Paris. They spent countless hours in the cafes and bars sketching and drawing from life models, socializing, and imbibing alcohol.
And here in the second decade of the 21st century, at the Bethlehem Brew Works, another group of talented artists gather every 2nd Tuesday.
